Happy Valentine’s Day with Aimee

Welcome, hello and Happy Valentine’s Day from Vivian and Hattingdon.

I started off with something quite different from what you are about to see.

My goal was a simple, sweet hat with the word love on it, and also imagined some stitching detail.

My original attempt fell quite short of what I originally envisioned. So I started over. This is a truer, simpler and I believe sweeter design.

I named the design Aimee and created it in three colorways: black, red and pink. What do you think?

Hattingdon celebrates National Plum Pudding Day

Hello. It’s February 12, 2017, National Plum Pudding Day.

Hattingdon Plum Pudding Design

Hattingdon celebrates National Plum Pudding Day by wearing her Plum Pudding hat all day long. She loves that she not only gets to wear this hat at Christmas but again come February.

The Plum design always rates highly with Hattingdon® lovers so we know you won’t mind seeing it again.

About the Day

Observed on February 12th, National Plum Pudding Day is a day to learn more about this delicious dessert.

Plum pudding, also know as Christmas pudding, is a steamed or boiled pudding usually served during the holiday season.

In many recipes, plum pudding actually contains no plums. The reason for this is in the 17th century, plums were referred to as raisins or other fruits.

The name Christmas pudding is first recorded in 1858 in a novel by Anthony Trollope.

Plum pudding is usually made up of nutmeg, raisins, nuts, apples, cinnamon and dates, along with other ingredients.

In England, traditionally every person in the home holds onto the wooden spoon together to help stir the batter. While they are stirring, they also have to make a wish!

Plum pudding has also been known to be called plum duff.

Vegan Christmas Plum Pudding with Brandy Butter

Hattingdon and her creator Vivian Grant Farrell are both vegans. Think you can’t have tasty vegan version of this wonderful traditional dessert? Oh my, wait until you taste this!

Miss Kitchen Witch (your source for vegan magic), whose recipe we highly recommend, writes:

“I must be clear that this is not a fruit cake, nor is it a pudding in the American sense. As it ages, the alcohol breaks down the fruit and melds it with the flour portion of the cake. It is heavy and dense like a pound cake and more moist than fruit quick-bread. This is going to be my new family tradition to pass down.”

Vivian tried this in a friend’s Vegan Test Kitchen last year and it is simply marvellous. Go here for the recipe »

How about when the game is over and the partying begins.

Hattingdon has chosen a deep red fedora with a diamond pattern stitched on the crown and little flowers on the brim. Hmmm, red. Is she trying to tell us something? The addition of a feather would have given it away. Instead Hattingdon opts for an LI earbob in black.

Inauguration Day hats with Hattingdon

Greetings on Inauguration Day 2017.

We are not political animals here per se. We’re just animals. But you know Hattingdon. She simply refuses to miss any occasion for which she can trot out a hat or two or more, and this occasion is no exception.

How about this one. This is the Betsy Hattingdon design. She is not leaving you classic hat lovers out today. Sweet.

I love this one but it’s perhaps more July than January. This is the Gloria Hattingdon design.

Hey, wait a minute. I know this hat is red, white and blue, but — wrong country there Hattie. Oh, well, let her have some fun. This is the Jackie hat and one of my personal favorites.

Here we go again. Hey, Hattingdon. Can we stay on theme please? Oh, well. Let her be. Hattingdon just adores Canada. This is the Brooke design. That maple leaf “plume” makes me chuckle.

Aaah, now here we go. Just darling and perfect. And it will keep most of Hattingdon’s ears warm. This design is called Sammy.

What? No ball cap? Hattingdon always seem to have a ball cap. . .

Oh, look. Here comes Jada.

Not exactly patriotic but very cute. I see Hattingdon eyeing it. Watch out.

Okay, ladies and gentlemen. What’s your pleasure? Do you have a favorite?

Happy Friday and a Hatful of Smiles™ to you all.

Hattingdon snags Jada’s peace sign ballcap for herself

Hattingdon fell in love with the peace sign ballcap Jada was wearing the other day and has snagged it or herself. Jada doesn’t mind sharing.

“I am so in love with the peace sign Vivian created. And it is so darling on the front of that ballcap. I have to have it. It isn’t too 17-ish for me is it?”, says Hattingdon.

Thank you Hattingdon. No, not at all. It isn’t too 17-ish for you. You can wear anything and make us smile. See.

The Amani Hattingdon design is already in our online store.

Per your request, we have put the Amani peace sign on a button for you button lovers. And some other cute things.

Wishing you peace, love and and a hatful of smiles!
