Fall Hat Month and Felt Hat Day

Show off your favorite fall hats and use #FallHatMonth to post on social media.

It’s September. The long hot summer months are drawing to a close. So is the wearing of all those straw garden hats. During Fall Hat Month men and women are encouraged to put aside their straw hats and begin wearing felt or fabric hats that are seasonal for the Fall. Hat-related activities are also encouraged.

Fall Hat Days

September 15 is Felt Hat Day and Make a Hat Day.

Felt Hat Day

On Felt Hat Day men are encouraged to put away their summer hats and take out their felt hats, dust them off and wear them. This was a tradition that was highly observed in the 30s and 40s when a man was not considered properly dressed unless he was wearing a hat.

Celebrating this day is easy. Just wear a felt hat. It can be any style as long as the material is felt. In the instance of this hat day, no other hat material will do.

Make a Hat Day

Make a Hat Day is is a day for fun. Design, make, and wear your a hat for yourself today. Put your personality into it. Or, make a hat from a character you would like to imitate for a day.

This day is very popular with preschool, kindergarten, and grade school teachers and students. Early in the new school year, teachers look for fun and interesting projects to break up the classroom routine, especially art projects. Kids, who love arts projects by nature, can use their creativity in making a hat that fits them!

The rules for Make a Hat Day are quite simple. Just make a hat, any hat. It can be for you, or for mom or dad. Wearing the hat is optional. But, that’s half the fun.
